The course specifically focuses on the Japanese
ethnic group – the Japanese immigrants (Issei, first generation) and their
descendants (Nisei, second generation) – living in the United States by
studying the history of the Japanese American community. We will examine
Japanese American history from the second half of the 19th century
to the emergence of the Redress Movement and myth of the “model minority”, the
end of the 20th century.
