The course specifically focuses on the Japanese ethnic group – the Japanese immigrants (Issei, first generation) and their descendants (Nisei, second generation) – living in the United States by studying the history of the Japanese American community. We will examine Japanese American history from the second half of the 19^th century to the emergence of the Redress Movement and myth of the “model minority”, the end of the 20^th century.
